Don't Heckle The Supervillain

No place like home for the holidays.

Well, Christmas morning started off with a bang.

I went downstairs to start making the waffles for the traditional post-gift breakfast. As I was trying to get a sifter out from under our stove top the pull out shelf that has been there since, well, the house was built finally gave up its burden. Ceramic casseroles went a-flying, measuring cups, lids, everything. I tried, in vain, to catch some of it but alas, no luck. I destroyed, on accident, a few things that are probably older than I am. Now, on top of this, it was about 8:30am and the noise it made was considerable. I'm amazed no one woke up.

So, we moved forward with the usual Christmas gift-giving. This brought about the other annual tradition in our home. The Christmas morning argument. My sister, in front of company, stomped her feet and acted, in general, like a spoiled twelve year old and not the thirty-one year old woman she claims. The fight drew itself all the way through Christmas breakfast and well into the day so far.

My poor Mother. All my Mom wants is to have a Merry Christmas with her children. But it's exactly this kind of thing that makes me want to stay away this time of year. I miss my friends. I miss, oddly, my cats. I miss breathing air that isn't filled with nicotine and smoke.
