Modern Aseop

Michael Crichton died Tuesday.

He was my favorite author. I viewed his stories as modern versions of Aseop's fables.

On the list of people I wanted to meet in my lifetime, he was in the top 5. Now, I will never get the chance.

It also began my mind spinning toward this: now that he's gone, one can look back in 10 or 20 years and find what he left behind, a legacy of novels and stories. Regardless of how they stand up over time, and I believe that they will hold up well, there is an amazing amount that tells that he was here. His works express his personality as much as they tell a story. It makes me want to create something of my own, something which will persist through time. To mark that I too was here. To carry forth the unique view I hold of our world.

Rest in peace Mr. Crichton. Thank you for your work, you held my attention for as long as you asked for it. For an artist there can be no higher praise.

That is all.

Coming and going.

Another Guy Fawkes' day has come and gone. The day has a special meaning for me, as it marks my birthday as well (see previous posts on or near the 5th.)

This year was a quiet affair. Nikki and I took a half day, spent it together. Went out for a nice dinner, an excellent dessert and topped it off by watching the highlights of Ironman and the latest Harold and Kumar film (funny but so wrong!)

When I was a kid, apparently, teachers told my parents that they could always tell when my birthday was coming up, I would get more excited, more engaged. Now it has become less and less something to which I look forward. I don't want to get any older, I would like to remain 32. Or, if possible, go back to 18/19. I had less money, yes, but more hair. :-)

I'm not sad. It's been a good year. And I had a wonderful time with Nikki. I'm happy. I just don't want to get any older. I feel like someone trying to find a good spot for a picnic. This spot's good, let's just stay here. :-)

That is all.
