Revolution

I remember reading somewhere once that all it takes for a revolution is two people and an idea.

Well, I'm now a revolutionary.

The idea is that my boss is providing no direction for the team. That we need a plan of action, that we need to work together, as a group, and move forward. Quo Vadimus. Where are we going?

A co-worker and I sat down and talked about it last night. And we decided. We need to provide the direction in lieu of real leadership. Develop a plan, recruit buy-in from other team members, move forward with a plan of action and address the problems facing our team. Most importantly foster a team environment. Work together.

So we've started. And we'll see what happens. It may fail but it's better to have tried than not, it's better to have made the effort and go down swinging.

That is all.

The devil went down to Georgia?

Ok, it's a great song but as I was driving home tonight I started thinking about it. When you hear the song you figure it's a fair bet right? Fiddle of gold has a value as does a soul, even if the fiddle is worth less than an eternal soul it's still a pretty fair bet right?

Not really. The assumption is that if the devil loses the contest he also loses something of value (the fiddle). But that's wrong. A soul is infinitely more valuable than gold will ever be (if you believe in souls). Gold has no value what-so-ever to the devil. It's got to be the equivalent of betting someone a penny (fiddle) vs their million dollars (soul). Even if you lose you've ventured something that, to you, is worth practically nothing. And even if you win only one out of a hundred times you're making back so much more on your investment.

This must be why the devil does so well...

I've always liked the quote "Sometimes you make a deal with the devil because he's the only one open for business."

That is all.
