Don't Heckle The Supervillain

Of firsts and lasts

When I was in third grade I read a story called "The Last First". At least I think that was the name of it. It was a short story and the reason my third grade teacher had me tested for mental disability. This backfired on her as the tests she requested I take proved that, if anything, I should be advanced in school not held back. However, I remember it because I couldn't wrap my mind around the meaning of the title. I like to think that it was because at that age I couldn't conceive of an ending to things. Perhaps, perhaps it was just extended innocence and perhaps Ms. Marvel (yes, that was her name) couldn't conceive that innocence could last that long. Who can say?

Today, on lunch at work, I read The Last Question by Isaac Asimov. I can't help but feel that, in my mind, these two are somehow connected. If not by a formal relationship then by a philosophical one. More on this later if I think to come back to it.
