Sweet Home Chicago
Check it. I made it back to Chicago. 11 hours. Boo-yah. Now on to wisconsin, only four more to go.
Endings...
Well, I'm out of here. Like
RIGHT NOW out of here.
I want to say a big thanks to Fil, Jason and Neal at the apartment for letting me crash. Fil and Jason specifically, sorry I woke you up guys.
M-I-C
See you real soon!
That is all.

And all at once, everything old is new again...
Well kids, it's way past midnight and Cinderella has to leave the ball. But I'll be back, and soon.
I'm leaving today, I should be sleeping not blogging.
I've had too much fun. It will all be logged in one massive post once I get back to Chicago and have the time to sort it all out in my mind. It involves so much: nuns, nudity, shotguns and illegal ammunition smuggling in the district, clones attacking and so much more. I intend to issue medals and citations for acts going above and beyond the call of duty. It should be interesting. So stay tuned.
18 hour drive tomorrow. wheeeee.......
I don't have to go home but I can't stay here.
That is all.
Did I say Saturday?
HA! A brief window of opportunity to avoid being gandalfed into an entire weekend here! Thursday morning I make my break. They won't notice I'm gone until it's too late. (Evil villian laughter)
I must have rolled a natural 20 save against the collective persuasive skills of Neal B,
Fil P. and
Homer M.
Seriously though, all AD&D references aside, I'm sad to go. But I've promises to keep and many miles to go before I sleep.
For more on this see above...
That is all.

Gandalfing...
I've been gandalfed...shang-hied, duped, suckered, taken in...I'm staying till Sat.
Damn.
Usually, I'm the one who does it...
That is all.

Things on my mind
Driving so much that it's no longer measured in time but mileage.
People who I've been here with and how this feels like so many times before.
How much I feel at home, in my element again.
The joy of being here, now.
How damn cool my friends here are, I knew they were good, but damn if they aren't
GREAT.
Ok, no more sappy sentiments...for now.
That is all.
NEXT TIME GADGET!
You may have seen the picture of me that my "friend" Fil aka "Praxis Loki" took of me at
Lots of Monkeys while I was
sleeping. Yes, he's won this round...but I
WILL have my revenge.
OH YES!
That is all...for now.
Two of Three and the day ain't over yet...
I love being back in DC. I'm having so much fun, I'll detail it all, if I can remember it, when I get back to Chicago. I think we can safely assume I won't be staying there much longer!
So far today I've been skeet shooting and eaten meat..all that's left...naked ladies...w00T!
That is all.
Thursday, May 23, 2002
My jaw hurts and there are half naked girls all around...
D.C. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! It feels like I never left.
I've already been to Wagshal's and been to
AU to see the scanitly clad co-eds in their summer dress.
Life is good.
That is all.

Out of town
Since no one I know is actually capable of ransacking my place while I'm gone it won't hurt to mention that I'm leaving town for the weekend to go back to
the big cheese for my Mom's birthday. I know this sounds bad but I'd honestly prefer to stay here, I have a ton of stuff to do. But then I wouldn't be a very good son would I? Not that I'm winning any awards now but every little bit helps.
Let's just pray that the
Amtrak engineer has gotten more sleep that I have.
Anyway I won't be posting till I get back on Monday at the earliest, Tuesday at the latest. This is what I get for moving
closer to family.
That is all.
Mental Breakdown
It's been so long since I got any real sleep it's almost funny.
Last night could have been a cartoon it was so comical the things that prevented me from getting a good night's sleep. Seriously, all I would have needed to top it off would have been for roadwork to begin below my windows. Usually I'm pretty good about sleeping through things, especially when I'm tired but the medicine I'm taking to get rid of my nasal infection keeps me awake.
It's a party.
That is all.

Lisa Loeb, Cake And Pie
A couple of years ago I went to a
Sarah McLachlan concert with a girlfriend. In addition to getting to see several women making out (hey, it was more than I got that night), I also was treated to Lisa Loeb. I'd heard her before and had both of her CDs but I really enjoyed her live performance. Despite a poor review from
Rolling Stone I found
Firecracker to be a great album. Songs like
This,
I Do,
How and
Truthfully really made a well rounded work.
Now after 3 years and a shift to
A&M Records Lisa Loeb is back with
Cake and Pie. Her sound is confident and well paced with a few really great tunes. However, there's more of her folk influence in this album, with many of the songs seeming more like spoken word poetry with a nice musical rift in the backround. Most of the songs run together, all sounding like the last. There's no real variety, something that really set
Firecracker apart in my humble opinion. I will say that Dwezil Zappa really adds something to the music with his guitar work, specifically on
You Don't Know Me, which I think might be a little autobiographical on Ms. Loeb's part but shows off her cunning lyrical work again.
Someone You Should Know has solid lyrics but a truely great sound, wonderful hook and rhythm.
Overall, worth a listen if you're a fan. If you want to see Lisa at her "A" game I recommend
Firecracker but this one is good if you like her sound and want something you can put on for backround music, though don't expect to be able to completely ignore it, you
WILL be drawn in by at least two really wonderful tunes.
Excellent Smithers...
Sony and
Microsoft have both dropped the prices on their respective systems to $200. The
Nintendo Gamecube is already priced there. The only question that remains is...which one?
One more thing...
I see by my site visitation meter that the incidences of strangers visiting the site has slowed considerably. Guess, I'm not entertaining enough to attract new readers. And while I find this somewhat ego bruising, I have to say that it's rather nice having just this intimate little setting with you, my friends.
Now to go weep in my boring, boring life.
*SNIFFF*
Captain has the con. That is all.
Head start
Ever go to bed, then wake up a couple hours later, but when you wake up you're
completely awake? Welcome to my world.
It's 4am. 4am. Yup. 4. AM. 4am. I am completely awake. So much so that I could do complex mathematical computations right now if asked. I know I'm not going to get back to sleep for a while and that sucks because it's going to throw my whole day off. Damn.
On a different note, I think it's a real shame people don't really e-mail each other. It's kind of funny. I think we can all remember when we first got e-mail that period where we wrote everyone we knew every single day. But like any form of communication that's too accessable we begin to take it for granted. It's too easy now. We don't want to be bothered with it. I wonder what this says about the human psyche. Does communication need to be inherently difficult for us to value it? And if so what level of difficulty would be just enough so that we would make a daily effort yet not so strenuous that we would find it too difficult to be worthwile.
Yeah, I know I'm
way too awake when I start spewing that kind of B.S.
More random stuff...
Despite it's
Dawsonesque qualities, the liberties the producers have taken with the lore and some rather annoying consistancies in each episode, I find that I continue to enjoy watching
Smallville quite alot. Sure there's the will they/won't they angst of modern teen shows, but
ABC's
Lois & Clark had a lot of the same. The thing that truely stings is how they've mucked with some of the lore from the
Superman comics, but that's become a trend in Hollywood, just look at
Spiderman. The only real liability is the show's reliance on the formula of "meteor rocks give random person one specific superpower which they abuse until Clark, still learning about his own powers, stops them." Other than these issues, I enjoy the show quite alot. It has a great sense of humor. Making subtle, often tongue in cheek, references to Clark's future endevours.
BTW: Speaking of
Spiderman, you can
bid on a piece of the movie itself. Studios have been doing this more and more, auctioning off movie memoribilia. The auction ends on May 17th. But if you have the cash you too can pay
over Ten Thousand dollars for the center chest piece of Spidey's outfit. God, I wish I had that kind of cash to burn...
Well, since I'm up, I'm going to go do something else. Staring at a computer screen in the dark is bad for your eyes you know...at least that's what they tell me.
Morning all.

Very interesting...but very weird
Fil has an interesting rant(?) up about Ep. I and his hopes for the next installment. Just to add my two cents. The thing I found most frustrating about Ep. I were the obvious, gaping holes in logic. Specifically, force powers. Obi-wan could have used the "force-run" to make it to Qui-gon before those energy walls appeared. Also, Darth Maul should have chopped him in half when he did that little up and over twist, I wanted to see Obi-wan kill him but in a legitimate, real victory. It felt like Lucas just said, well, that's enough of that. Kill him. Fil covers the medichlorian issue. Basically, I just think Lucas should have taken his movie to a six year old before release and asked him to find the problems. Though the six year old probably would have liked Jar-jar. Maybe a six year old and a teenager. Yeah, that'd work.
SuperFriends
Thought I'd take this time to tell you about the three people I commonly mention on my little blog. If you're reading this, odds are you already know them, hell, you probably ARE them but still...anyway, click on their name for a picture. I'll attach a link to their blog at the end, just in case.
Fil: A stand up guy. Though don't rely on him to send anything to you, despite his close proximity to a
Mailboxes Etc. Fil enhances a conversation the way a fine wine enhances a dining experience, his presence makes it unique. Humor, wit, class and thoughtful reflection are his trademark. He also has a wicked bent for
technology. Fil keeps me up to date on what's new and hip. Plus, he has great taste in music. Frequently too hard on himself. His dating habits will not be discussed (;-)because, well, anyone who knew or knew of my last girlfriend knows that those in glass houses...For reasons I don't know but could probably guess, this man would like to see me beaten with a large stick...with a nail in it...but I'm taking the high road...Read
Lots of Monkeys at your leisure.
Homer: Wow. What do you say about Homes...Never met anyone who defines the word
friendship so well. The man helped me move, helped me build a computer, always asks me how I am and means it. The kind of guy you could drive for three hours with, say nothing and that would be cool. A hep cat if I ever met one. Fun in any group, anytime. Always willing to stay out late. Not once have I ever heard him say "Nah, I'm not up for it." The man is a rock. Integrity, honor, you can tell he was raised by a marine. Frequently too hard on himself as well and often lovelorne (though, again, I'm not one to cast stones). He's often a bit manic in his posts but it's amusing in a sort of "watching that crazy guy run around all wacked out" way, also, the picture, damn funny. Read
JungFroid's Public Journal at your own risk.
Ross: One of my friends from the
old school. Yes, Ross and I grew up together in
the big cheese. We've known each other for 15 years. He's also one of the few friends I have from H.S. that stays in touch regularly. Ross, like Homer, is a man you can absolutely trust when the chips are down. But, as you can tell from the picture, he's got a free spirit. Ross is anchored heavily at both ends of the spectrum, serious and joyful, I'm amazed he doesn't snap. But he manages to reconcile the inherent contradictions well. Ross shares many of my interests and I always enjoy talking to him, provided he doesn't jab one of his meat sausage fingers into my ribcage at high velocity (started when I sat in front of him in Social Studies at middle school). Ross has no weblog, which is just as well considering his rantings would drive any mere mortal into stark raving insanity. Trust me, I'm already there.
Yup, these are my special online friends...
Which reminds me...
Speaking of
Harry Connick, Jr...I took a girl (no, not that one) to one of his concerts my sophmore year at
American University. He sang
"America The Beautiful", I swear, there wasn't a woman with dry panties left in the crowd when he finished. Bastard. Some guys might benefit, in that their girlfriends would ravish them later in place of what they might do if HCJr would let them. I never seem to date that type of girl. I'd LIKE to but I don't. Bastard.
Just a funny story I thought I'd share. I laugh when I think of it. Hope you do to.
Songs I Heard
I just bought Harry Connick, Jr's new cd
Songs I Heard. It's a really great cd covering old movie, childhood and broadway classics. It's worth it just for Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Say that five times fast...backwords.
Fil, you'll really love this.

Updates and Sarcasm
My friend
Fil has updated his site. The new design is pretty cool and I like the fact that he's gotten rid of his splash page. He's also linked this blog and, in no particular order, I'm first on the list (though I'm sure that will change when he reads this...) I imagine my ranking is to offset the fact that while he comments favorably on the other blogs he links ("cool guy", "daring and touching" and "A truer friend you'll find not.") his comments on mine recommend beating me with a large piece of wood...with a nail in it.
OUCH. I know (HOPE) he's kidding, so I'm taking this moment to tease back. However, if by some freak accident I manage to ever be injured by a large stick with or sans nail, I know who I'm gonna sue. Bling-bling baby, bling-bling.
BTW: I'm feeling much better now.
Thank you drive through
I love modern medicine. Despite the fact that the only thing that is no longer "non-drowsy" is Nyquil. I mean, what happened to all the "drowsy" stuff? Sometimes, it'd be nice to just have some "drowsy" stuff, like at 3am when you're trying to get to sleep, but you can't cuz your nose is stuffed and you're so tired you could cry but you just can't fall asleep cuz you're SICK!
But I digress. I took something, I'm not sure what, but something and it worked. I'm healed, at least, temporarily. I can breathe and I only sound like a moderately broken duck call when I do so. Scientists of the world, huzzah to you! Huzzah to the gentle purveyors of medicine!
Sick and Tired...
I hate being ill. It's just a cold or more likely, a nasal infection. But I hate it. I can't breathe and when I do, I sound like a broken duck call.
Being sick sucks. I'm going back to bed.

Migration
Yes, it's that wonderful time of the year when Federal Income Tax returns to its home in my wallet. A wonderous and beautiful sight to be sure. The only question now is how to spend it...perhaps a
gamecube,
x-box or
playstation 2. Or perhaps I'll fund a trip back to D.C. over the memorial day weekend. So many options.
Fightin' Moms
Lifetime television for women is running some Mom's weekend. I have no problem with this, I think Mother's Day is a great thing. But they were running some promotion about showing Moms fighting adversity and overcoming trials. Couldn't we have a nice weekend, no angst, pain or drama? Sad.
One Hit Wonders
Well, it's spring cleaning for my CD collection. This year, out of a field of 200+ CDs only 9. Not bad, considering, though I think peer to peer file swapping has cut down on one hit wonder CD buying. I'm going to list the CDs below but before you mock me for my musical tastes take a look at your own collection...yeah, that's what I thought. BTW: Since people I know are the only ones, pretty much, to read this weblog, let me know if you want any of the albums listed. I'll try to get them out to you ASAP, at least faster than some people
*AHEM* even though I don't live or work near a
Mailboxes Etc. like some people
*(cough)FIL(cough)*. So here we go:
Citizen King, Mobile Estates Song: Better Days (And The Bottom Drops Out)
Nick Sez: It's never a good sign when the band never releases another album...
Deep Blue Something Song: Breakfast At Tiffany's
Nick Sez: It's because of an ex-girlfriend...don't ask...
Dishwalla, Pet Your Friends Song: Counting Blue Cars
Nick Sez: Ah, 90's angst rock...
Dynamite Hack, Superfast Song: Boyz-N-The Hood
Nick Sez: Fil has a better, alternate version on MP3, I'd ask him for it...
Eagle Eye Cherry, Desireless Song: Save Tonight
Nick Sez: Another ex-girlfriend thing...hey, did you know his sister is
Neneh Cherry?
New Radicals, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too. Song: You Get What You Give
Nick Sez: Another bad sign is when the band breaks up after just releasing their first album...
Seal, Seal Song: NO TITLE LISTED
Nick Sez: I didn't buy this, an ex-girlfriend (no, not that one) gave it to me...
SR-71, Now You See Inside Song: Right Now
Nick Sez: Right then they were big, right now they're working the drive through...they disappeared faster than the
SR-71 Blackbird they were named for...
Tony Toni Tone, Sons Of Soul Song: If I Had No Loot
Nick Sez: Great song, too bad they didn't have more like this on the album...
Well, that's it. If you want one, let me know, otherwise, they head to a used CD store.

Let's Be Honest
Blowjobs. We men love them. You women hate giving them.
And what's more, sometimes, it would be nice if you women would just give us a blowjob, a whole blowjob, ejaculation and all.
But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........it's hard, it's disgusting, blah, blah, blah. Well tough shit. You don't think we feel the same way about both similar and different activities? We pay for dinner, we open doors, we stand up to our mothers for you, we think of sweet, romantic things to do and places to go. We put time and effort into the relationship as well and, yes, we expect returns. I'm tired of women who have been raised with the menality that men should put out all the effort in the world but that they are not obligated to give anything back.
What a nut
My friend, and I use the term lightly,
Homer has commented on my blog. Bitch am I? I'm not the one who dyed his hair blond and has a purse. That's all I'm saying about that.
Time changes things
I just saw something that, many years ago, I found very romantic and sweet.
It still was but, no longer being in a relationship, I found it some how different. I saw what I had seen years ago but it was just a little different. Not quite as sweet. Like the second taste of chocolate.
I just find that a little, disappointing.

Spiderman Review
I'll say just these three things:
1.
IT RULED. GO SEE IT.
2. According to the manager at
Loews Cineplex Streets Of Woodfield they had 8,000 people on Friday, 6,000 of them were for
Spiderman.
3.
IT RULED. GO SEE IT AGAIN.
No need to argue, parents just don't understand
With all respect to
Will Smith for borrowing his lyric.
Man, I'll tell you. What a night. Went to see Spiderman (see above) but my mother came with. It was part of her "trying to take interest in her son's interests" thing. Great only ten years too late. I made my peace a long time ago with the fact that I have some interest that I share with my parents and many, many more that I do not. While I love spending time with my mother, I wish she'd just stay out of that portion of the
venn diagram that are strictly my interests. My life would be much less stressful.
Let me give you a little example. Like most of my friends I've only been dreaming of this movie since I was, oh, ten and I picked up my first copy of
"The Amazing Spiderman". So we're sitting there, my mother and I, and we sit through a full fifteen minutes of previews when my mother leans over and says
"Would you mind running to get me a soda? I'm thirsty."!
I'M THIRSTY WOULD YOU GET ME A SODA! DEAR GOD! Twenty minutes in line (
IN FRONT OF A REFRESMENT STATION NO LESS!!!!) and she chooses one minute before the feature starts to ask me to get her a drink!
GOD DAMMIT!
Now if you live in Chicago, or any major city really, you know parking is usually a bitch. I don't have a car, I don't need a car, I use public transport. My mother comes down and we have to drive everywhere. Needless to say parking is tight, especially at night. So all the way BACK from the movie my mother is pulling a
Marge Simpson.
"Oh, I hope we get a parking space. Do you think we'll get a parking space, I hope we do. I don't want to walk, I really hope we get a parking space. Do you think we'll get a parking space?" So we get to my apartment and a block away I find
TA-DA! a parking space! YEA! It's tiny but I barely, barely squeeze my mother's
Jeep Liberty into the spot, my mother gets out and declares
"The tire is on the curb." AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing is good enough. Long story short (too late) we give up the space!
Like
Chris Rock says "I don't condone what O.J. did, but I do understand it."

Everything I do is BAD
My mother is here. She walked into my apartment and found 10 things that are wrong with my life without even blinking.
Why God? Why have you forsaken me?
Anyway, it's easy for her to criticize when she doesn't live here. It still drives me nuts though.
I love my Mom but she can be such a pain, sometimes I wish I could tell her to go to hell. Unfortunately, I need her charity and good will. It's this whole Israel/US thing in a microcosm of my life.
BTW: If you're Greek Orthodox, Happy Easter.

Must be my week for honorable mentions...well, mentions anyway.
My friend
Fil was kind enough to mention me on his weblog.
Fil's a good man doing the lord's work, so long as that involves drinking heavily and chasing after women. Kidding, bygones.
Also, I'm going to mention again how I'm a
runner-up!

Good People
I have several friends who constantly question their self-worth. And while I think a bit of introspection is a good thing I think my friends sometimes tend to be too hard on themselves.
To them I say this...you're good people. Relax, don't worry so much.
Out.

Great rant
The following rant comes to you thanks to Brian Clevinger of
8-bit Theater. It's really funny, unfortunately he changed the title, I prefer the original so I've preserved it here:

Creepy E-mail
I got the creepiest e-mail today from someone named legume.
It honestly scared me, and it came to my personal e-mail address. That worries me more than a little.
If it's a joke by people I know, it's not funny. It was sincerely, some freaky stalker type stuff.
